Eye Donation Month: Using EBAA Materials to Promote Your Eye Bank and the Gift of Sight

November is Eye Donation Month, and EBAA has prepared a marketing toolkit filled with promotional materials for your organization. Find out how to best use the collateral that has been developed, and the theme “The Power of You” to share your mission and promote cornea donation within your community. EBAA’s public relations consultants, Denise Gavilan and Dave Harrison, and EBAA Communications Manager, Colleen Bayus, will present the tools and discuss best practices for spreading the word about your eye bank’s work to the media to gain publicity and support for your mission. The speakers will also introduce a fun month-long social media campaign to keep the Eye Donation Month buzz going throughout all of November. Attendees will also hear an eye bank professional share their past Eye Donation Month successes which increased awareness about their eye bank and cornea donation, ultimately strengthening important relationships and developing new ones. The session will close with the premiere of this year’s Eye Donation Month video.
Gavilan and Associates
Denise Gavilan is owner and marketing strategist of Gavilan & Associates, an award-winning consulting firm based in Annandale, VA. Denise’s firm has led successful branding, social media, membership recruitment and retention, product marketing, conference attendance-building and more for organizations throughout the country. Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Denise has a Master’s Degree in Communications from American University.

David Harrison is a seasoned public relations and marketing professional with more than 20 years' experience developing and executing integrated communications campaigns.
He began his career in journalism, as a reporter for the Baltimore Business Journal and the American Banker. After creating and leading the professional association practice at a large regional public relations agency, David created Harrison Communications in 2007.
Specializing in working with professional associations, commercial real estate firms and health care organizations, David has created numerous national and regional award-winning PR and branding campaigns. David believes the critical element to any communications campaign is valuable content, and he helps clients uncover and deliver messages that desired audiences want to receive.
David is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in English Language and Literature/Liberal Arts in Business.
Janice Sedgwick, M.Ed, CEBT
Georgia Eye Bank
Janice Sedgwick, M.Ed, CEBT, earned a B.S. in Community Health and Human Services and M.ED in Public Health Education from Georgia College and State University. Janice began her eye banking career in November 1996 as a Hospital Development Liaison for the Macon and South Georgia area. In 2002, she became the Donor Coordinator Supervisor. In 2010, Janice began serving as the Training & Development Supervisor and was responsible for the training and supervision of Recovery Technicians. In January 2015, Janice was promoted to Manager of Public & Professional Relations. Janice manages Georgia Eye Bank's many community and professional relations activities. Janice has been a Certified Eye Bank Technician since 2003. She is past chair of Donate Life Georgia and is Co-Chair of the Donor Development Committee for the Eye Bank Association of America.
