Woodford Van Meter, MD

Woodford S. Van Meter, MD was born and raised in Paris, Kentucky.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Davidson College in 1975 and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1979.  Dr. Van Meter completed his Ophthalmology residency at the Mayo Clinic in 1983 and a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at Emory University in Atlanta, in 1984.  He has practiced in Lexington, Kentucky, since 1984.  ///Dr. Van Meter is Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky, where he specializes in corneal transplants, cataract surgery, and external diseases of the eye.  He is Chairman of the Board of the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), 2018-2020. He previously served on the AAO council for six years representing the EBAA, served as Chairman of the EBAA Accreditation Board for four years, Chairman of the EBAA Finance Committee for ten years, and was treasurer of the EBAA (2006-2016).  ///Dr. Van Meter has received several honors, including the 2010 R. Townley Paton Award from the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), the Life Achievement Honor Award from the AAO (2013), and has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” (Woodward/White) since 1993. He served as consultant to the FDA/CDRH Ophthalmic Devices Panel 1996 – 2016, and was listed in the 135 Leading Ophthalmologists in America in 2011.  He enjoys golf, tennis, cycling, white-water canoeing, and antiques.
