Executive Director Cohort
Shared obstacles. Shared strategies. A facilitated space to work through eye banking's toughest challenges with the peers who understand them best.
Eye banking's hardest challenges rarely come with clear answers. Tissue supply, regulation, reimbursement, workforce, and a fast-changing field are pressures that Executive Directors carry every day, often without a peer who truly understands the role.
The Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) Executive Director Cohort is a facilitated discussion group built exclusively for eye bank Executive Directors and CEOs. Across six monthly sessions, you'll work through the profession's biggest challenges alongside leaders facing the same pressures, sharing what's working, comparing approaches, and brainstorming ways forward together.
This isn't a lecture series, and it won't hand you tidy fixes to problems the whole field is still working through. What it gives you is a trusted network of peers, honest conversation you can find nowhere else, and practical ideas you can take back to run your eye bank more effectively. Each session opens with a Topic Leader who frames the discussion, and an experienced facilitator then guides a peer-driven conversation that keeps every voice involved.
Who It's For
This cohort is built exclusively for eye bank Executive Directors and CEOs. Limiting the room to top leaders keeps the conversation candid and confidential, and keeps every discussion focused on the decisions only you have to make. It is a dedicated space to support you as you lead through a demanding and evolving profession.
Learning Objectives
- Examine the strategic and operational challenges facing eye bank leadership today through structured discussion with peers.
- Exchange practical approaches and lessons learned with fellow EDs and CEOs facing similar pressures.
- Reflect on your organization's position and identify ideas to bring back to your board and team.
What We'll Cover
- Month 1 — Operations and Governance: the board-staff relationship, executive accountability, translating financial health for board audiences, and governance frameworks for eye bank leadership.
- Month 2 — Tissue Supply: Donor Volume, Surgeon Selectivity & Stewardship: balancing stewardship of the gift with varied surgeon standards, managing cancellations and discard rates, setting realistic expectations with surgical partners, and building logistics resilience.
- Month 3 — Regulatory Reality and Reimbursement: leading through regulatory ambiguity, communicating change without creating burnout, understanding the reimbursement landscape, and advocating within external policy frameworks.
- Month 4 — Workforce: Staffing, Retention, and Culture: retention within nonprofit constraints, staff wellbeing in a 24/7 recovery environment, cross-training versus burnout, and preserving institutional knowledge.
- Month 5 — Industry Disruption: competing on value in a consolidating market, navigating emerging therapies, adopting new technology without disruption, and positioning for a future with fewer traditional transplants.
- Month 6 — Hot Topics and Wrap-Up: topics shaped by the cohort — the questions and themes members most want to revisit before we close.
