The Quality Assurance Seminar is a virtual course covering the quality system behind every eye bank — how it is built, how it is monitored, and how it holds up when someone from outside comes to check.

This hybrid course pairs on-demand lessons with a live virtual workshop on Zoom, and registration includes both. The on-demand lessons work through the core elements of an eye bank quality program one at a time and then live workshop puts it to work with interactive case studies and discussions.

This course is intended for anyone whose work touches quality. That includes staff stepping into a QA role for the first time, technicians and supervisors who carry QA responsibilities alongside other duties, and experienced QA professionals who want a structured refresher. No prior quality training is assumed. New to EBAA or to eye banking? An optional orientation section gets you up to speed first.

November 13 — Live Virtual Workshop (1:00 pm – 3:15 pm ET)

Expectations

Attendees are expected to complete the course introduction and all required modules, pass the quiz at the end of each module, attend the live workshop, and complete the course surveys. Modules can be taken in any order. Individuals must have access to a computer with a functioning microphone, speaker, and camera for the live workshop, as there will be small group work. 

Course Content

The on-demand lessons are listed below in the order we recommend, but you can take them in any order. Each module ends with a short quiz; a score of 80% is required to complete the module, and retakes are unlimited. Sessions marked optional do not count toward course completion.

Live Virtual Workshop — November 13

A 2-hour-15-minute Zoom session that is almost entirely application. It opens with a quick poll on what "quality" actually means, then turns to a panel of QA experts taking the questions attendees have submitted anonymously in advance — the things people are afraid to ask QA. Attendees then work through two case studies in small breakout groups. The session closes with "Hot Topics: Fight Club for Quality," in which the panel debates deliberately provocative statements about quality practice, and a final commitment: one thing you will change on Monday.

Access Information

Once you have registered, you will get access to the on-demand lessons starting on October 23.

To access the lessons, log into EyeLearn, open the on-demand course, click on the Components tab, and select the module you wish to take. Modules do not need to be taken in order. Each module ends with a short quiz. To receive credit for completing the course, attendees must complete the course introduction and all nine QA modules, attend the live workshop, and complete the course surveys. Optional sessions do not count toward credit.

Computer Information

Attendees should have access to a computer with a camera and a functioning speaker and microphone. The live workshop is designed around small group activity, and having a working camera and microphone will let you take part fully.
